Sportsday Megaphone "Young Lust"

A year after releasing the Less & Less EP and then gaining ground amongst remix collectors' with blippy makeovers for The Rumble Strips, Elevators and Malcolm Middleton, London's Sportday Megaphone (one-man-laptop-tickler Hugh Frost) has warmed up the Casio once again, this time for the August release of his first full-length, So Many Colours/ So Little Time via Sunday Best Records.

First single "L.A." is set to arrive June 16th in 7" form, and while it provides an interesting connection between the homeless and Scientologists on top of Megaphone's signature razzle-dazzle keyboard work, the dreamy discount-pop melodics and dirty images summoned up on B-side "Young Lust" makes it the more likable of the two.

On "Young Lust", Frost's mannequin-like tenor warns against lending one's house to lovers because they "leave stains where blood, sweat and semen accumulate", and have relations so loud your "neighbors will never look you in the eye again". Frost's detached performance might paint him as being very pissed off (an understandable emotion given the circumstance), but watching the couple's infectious romance display soon melts down his annoyance. Yeah, they may have no shame, but that's what 'young lust' is about: knowing no bounds, having no manners and unable to slow down.

For the production, Hugh effectively emulates the Day-Glo giddiness of his house guests' youthful passion. Prickly synth notes clumsily land all over eachother, forming a dance floor lullaby so sugary-sweet, the idea of bodily fluids splashed across walls quickly transcends from being "Eww! Gross!" to "Aww, how endearing!".
