In search of something to kill those wintertime blues? Then unwrap an early Christmas present that may or may not have come from a trio of "American Idiots". The Foxboro Hot Tubs have gotten the blog circuits buzzin' aplenty with their introductory 6-song EP, Stop, Drop & Roll, a rewarding set of '60's garage rock-mirroring goodies. Is it Green Day? A nasal-voiced Billie Joe Armstrong-like frontman confirms it as a yes, but really who cares? It's about time rock snatched some of it's mystery back, anyway.
Immediate pleasantry "Mother Mary" quickly stands out as the song you're most likely to clean the house to. With jangly guitar melodies and classic doo-wop harmonies that whip you into a giddy frenzy, "Mother Mary" is an undeniable spirit-lifter that'll remind you how cool it must of been sipping milkshakes at the local burger joint with your steady waaaaaay back in the day.
Swing along to the song's joyous evoking of a young love high, when there's nothing better than chilling "under the stars by the fireside" or riding the midnight train to places you could care less about reaching. Tap your toes and bop your head to the irresistible pop rhythm and get lost in the shimmering "bah-bah-bahs" and "ooh-ooh-oohs" that'll be stuck in your brain for weeks. Forget that this is most likely a side project from that trio of Cali pop-punks, and just revel in it's feel-good spirits. Music this overwhelmingly great, (and free--legally!!!!), doesn't come along too often.
