One of those pop culture moments that only seems to be fascinating because of it's train wreck potential, Leto & Co.'s cover of Kanye West's rip of Daft Punk's pinch of Edwin Birdsong somehow manages to transcend "one listen and forget" disposability and end up their most oddly arresting contribution to modern rock (which maybe counting "The Kill", really isn't much).
Absorbed in glossed-over goth-gloom atmospherics, the song begs much of your patience, especially when Kanye's urgent chorus feels thrice as long in Jared's extra dramatized reinterpretation. Even with it's elongated grasp (not something to listen to when your fighting a midday nod-off), 30 Seconds To Mars' cover is sprinkled with interesting bits that make the entire affair worthwhile: the way the guitars gorgeously syncopate the familiar robo-groove; Jared's wispy vocalizing of "harder/ better/ faster/ stronger"; or the slightly humorous omitting of curse words (though the "blonde dyke" line remains intact).
In the end you still won't give much of a damn about 3STM, but this surprisingly not-atrocious cross-genre revamp is something to marvel at nonetheless.

hey its tara, here is the website i was talking about where i made the extra summer cash.......... the website is here
wow that was actually better than I thought it was going to be.
I thought this was a great cover, it is a little slow paced, but very well done nonetheless. My local radio station played it this morning thinking it was going to be bad, but everyone ended up liking it. The guitar that perfectly mimics the robotic sounding rhythm of Kanye's song is fantastic.
Put on your head phones and turn it up what a great cover.
I have to say, as a 30 seconds to Mars fanatic and holder of a great dislike towards hip-hop/rap/Kanye West, that I thought this was going to be a disaster. I actually really like Kanye's version of this song, which, as I said, is a oddity in itself, and I love 30 Seconds to Mars, but I still thought it wouldn't suit Jared's vocals. Oh, was I pleasantly surprised. It is a little long and, yes, he does dramatize the whole thing, but it is so beautiful and very well done. This song friggin' rocks!
Heard this first playing in HMV a while ago, sends shivers up my spine every time. AMAZING.
I love Kanye and I am a HUGE fan of 30 StM, this was an awesome cover of Stronger. I don't usually download tunes that I listen to on sites like this, but this is definitely one download I could not pass on.
I wonder what it's going to take for people to take this band seriously. Serious talent, even I who is a huge 30 fan was concerned that they'd butcher this and instead, they give us what they excel at giving us...something a little more moving, a little deeper and a little more thought provoking. Keep it up, guys. You continue to re-enforce the reasons that I'll be a fan for life.
