Fabolous featuring Lil' Mo "Make Me Better (Remix)"

Remember when a remix meant more than some random rapper stripping a new verse on a pre-existing track? Fabolous takes us back to those times when Diddy was "inventing" the remix and completely re-hauling the backing track in addition to adding some new artists in the mix.

On this sequel to "Make Me Better", Timbaland's haunting Orient-leaning loop is scrapped for the rich, familiar R&B lushness of The Isley Brothers' "Between The Sheets", one of those records that will never lose it's appeal no matter how many times it's sampled. Fabo's "Upgrade U"-inspired verses and Jigga stutter haven't changed, though his minimalist flow now seems more robust against the satiny groove, but the real treat this has to offer is that instead of Ne-Yo he gets to reunite with the "Beyonce" to his "Jay Z", Lil' Mo.

Mo, whose somehow struggled for years to carve a significant solo career, sounds as great as she did when her and Fabo were hyping themselves as the "Super"-duo of hip hop/ R&B. It would've been nice if she was to have a verse of her own here, but her soulful, layered rendition of the hook and those endlessly beautific ad-libs definitely help transform the stark darkness of the original "Make Me Better" into a smoothed out summer banger for the ladies. Hopefully this will be the jump off to re-ignite her solo status.

Nice flashback to one of their many hot collabos:
