Nelly Furtado featuring Missy Elliott "Do It (Remix)"

Milking Loose for the singles-heavy opus it is (though Nelly doesn't always choose the best ones-did anyone really like the boring "All Good Things"?), Furtado FINALLY releases the bubbly '80's-throwback "Do It" and injects some new flavor in the year-old cut with a Missy Elliott cameo.

Note-worthy for the Timbaland plagiarism controversy it launched earlier this year, "Do It" garnered attention much earlier as one of the better examples of Furtado's sudden focus on her fun-loving hip hop-pop teenage influences. A throwback to the innocent spirit of "Everybody"-era Madonna in it's squiggly dance-club infectiousness and dumbed down lyricism, Nelly (whose nasal vocal doesn't sound as grating here) feels like she's having fun, completely giving in to the track's kitschy hook and playful tone.

She and Missy made a better team on the "Get Ur Freak On (Remix)", especially since Elliott sounds like a broken record doing her "jiggle in my tight jeans" routine for the three-millionth time, but not even a recycled verse from Ms. "Supa Dupa Fly" can kill "Do It"'s kiddie-like charms. Furtado should pull out another chart winner with this one.
